Common questions about solution focused hypnotherapy
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a gentle, practical and forward-looking approach that combines psychotherapy, hypnosis and practical neuroscience. It has three key elements. The first is psychotherapy, which focuses on where you are now, what is already going well, and what you would like to move towards. The second is neuroscience-informed coaching, helping you understand how the mind responds to stress, anxiety and pressure, and how small, consistent steps can support positive change. The third is hypnosis, a deeply relaxed state of focused attention that can feel a little like a personalised meditation, allowing the mind and body to settle and helping the brain begin to absorb helpful suggestions more easily. Together, this approach can help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, build confidence and support lasting change over time.
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation. Unlike stage hypnosis, it is not about mind control or performing for show. You remain aware and in control throughout the process. For many people, it feels similar to a personalised meditation: a calm, restful and deeply focused state. It can also feel like becoming absorbed in a book, following a familiar route, or that quiet moment just before sleep. In this relaxed state, the mind can become more receptive to helpful suggestions, allowing positive change to happen in a gentle and supportive way.
Yes, absolutely. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a safe, non-invasive and relaxing therapy. You remain aware and fully in control at all times. The process is gentle, collaborative and designed to help you feel calm and supported.
Not in depth. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is more interested in where you are now, what is getting in the way, and where you would like to get to. There may be times when some background is helpful, particularly in the initial consultation, but sessions are not centred around revisiting the past. The focus is on helping you move forward.
Sessions are 60 minutes long and include time to talk through how things have been, what is going well, and what you would like support with. I may also explain aspects of how the mind works, so that you better understand what may be happening beneath the surface. This is then followed by a period of guided hypnosis tailored to your session, designed to help the mind and body relax and begin moving towards calmer, more helpful patterns and the goals you have in mind.
This varies from person to person and depends on what you would like support with. Many clients begin to notice positive changes over the course of a number of sessions, particularly when therapy is approached as a process rather than a one-off. For many people, meaningful progress begins to build over 6–12 sessions.
No. Many people choose to close their eyes because it helps them relax, but you do not have to. You are welcome to do whatever helps you feel most comfortable during the session.
Yes, hypnotherapy can work very effectively online. Many clients find sessions over Zoom just as helpful as in-person work, provided they have a quiet, comfortable space where they can relax without interruption.
Sessions are available online via Zoom, or in person at my rooms in Harley Street and East Putney.
Yes. Sessions can be adapted to suit the age, stage and needs of the child or young person. The work is always tailored carefully, helping them understand how their mind works and giving them practical tools to feel calmer, more confident and better able to cope.
Yes. Hypnotherapy can be adapted thoughtfully for people who are neurodivergent, including those with ADHD or autism. My approach is not about trying to “fix” neurodivergence, but about supporting anxiety, overwhelm, confidence and emotional wellbeing in a way that feels respectful and appropriate to the individual.
I support adults, children and young people with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, overwhelm, overthinking, confidence, self-doubt, exam stress, performance anxiety, phobias, smoking cessation and digital overwhelm. If you are unsure whether therapy is the right fit, you are very welcome to get in touch.
You can book a complimentary discovery call or enquire about sessions through the contact page. From there, we can arrange an initial consultation and discuss the best next steps.
I understand that from time to time unexpected things come up, and I will always do my best to be as flexible as possible. As your appointment time is reserved especially for you, I kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange. This allows me to manage my diary fairly for all clients, helps avoid unused appointment time, and supports consistency in the therapeutic process for both of us. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged in full. In the unlikely event that I need to reschedule, I will also provide at least 48 hours’ notice.
